Science Post Easter Letter

Dear Parent/Carer.

In the lead up to the Summer exams the Science department will be experiencing some unavoidable changes in staffing. I wanted to take the time to reassure you that we are taking every action available to provide a positive run up to these vital examinations. We will make sure that your child continues to access excellent lessons from fully qualified Science teachers right up to their examinations.

In order to facilitate this, we will be making some changes to the setting of a small number of students that allows existing staff to take on more responsibility in teaching year 11 examination groups.

Through curriculum planning and expert teaching we have now covered all aspects of the GCSE specification. This means that from this point onwards our lesson time will be focused around revising key content and developing examination skills. We feel this will give all pupils the best opportunity to achieve their potential in their Science exams.

In addition, we have some fantastic opportunities available to all year 11 students in the form of

  • After school revision sessions (Mondays for foundation tier and Wednesdays for higher tier)

  • Breakfast revision  booster sessions. The morning of all Science exams staff will be in the academy from 7.45am to support students with last minute revision and a healthy array of food and drinks will be available as well.

  • Bespoke examination booster session. Prior to every exam all students will have a booster session delivered to them from a member of the Science department covering all the key areas for students to focus on as they enter their exams.

  • Easter Revision sessions. During the Easter Break we are inviting students in to complete some guided revision with some of our members of the Science department. This will be happening Monday 8th April from 10am until 1pm.

I hope you and your child feel as confident about the upcoming examinations as we do but if there is any additional support your child needs please encourage them to speak to their Science teacher who will be more than willing to help.

Yours faithfully,

C Chapman

Head of Science Faculty.
