Co-op Academy Priesthorpe Archives School of Sanctuary Award
On the 15th of June, a group of dedicated Co-op Young Leaders from our academy, travelled to Chapel FM for a truly special occasion. There, they proudly received the School of Sanctuary award from the Lord Mayor of Leeds—marking a significant milestone in our school’s journey.
This moment was the culmination of a year-long commitment to building a more inclusive, welcoming, and compassionate school community. What made the journey particularly remarkable was that it was driven by the passion and leadership of our Co-op Young Leaders, supported every step of the way by Priesthorpe staff.
Over the past year, the Co-op Young leaders have played a central role in shaping our school’s ethos. They have helped to prepare assemblies, coaching-time activities, and, most importantly, supported new students as they joined our community—helping them to feel safe, valued, and at home.
Daniela Faldusova, EAL Coordinator said:
‘As we reflect on this incredible accomplishment, we recognise that becoming a School of Sanctuary is not the end of the journey, but the beginning of an ongoing commitment to uphold these values every day.’
Louise Pratt, Headteacher said:
‘I am incredibly proud of our Young Leaders. This award is worthy recognition of the work they have done, alongside staff, to ensure Co-op Academy Priesthorpe is a community where everyone feels they belong.’
