Dawsons Corner and Stanningley Bypass improvement scheme

Dear Parent/Carer

I write to inform you about the major improvement scheme at Dawsons Corner and Stanningley Bypass which is currently planned to start in early June. The council’s appointed contractor John Sisk to construct the scheme, which is scheduled to take up to 18 months to complete. I have already met with the Regional Manager working on the project to discuss how this may impact travel to and from school.

There will be access to the school site at all times but please expect that some road lanes around the school may be closed during the planned work and this will lead to delays. Please make sure you leave plenty of time for journeys.

Foot crossings around the site will remain in place throughout the building work but we would continue to ask students to use the footbridge wherever possible.

Front Entrance / The Ring Road

  • Please avoid dropping off and collecting students by car at the front entrance, wherever possible. We have a small number of students who need to be dropped off and collected at this entrance, and would ask everyone else not to use it, to avoid congestion. We simply do not have space on site for extra cars.

  • Always turn left out of the entrance. It is illegal to turn right. There are cameras, and fines are issued.

Rockwoods Entrance

This area may be busier during the building work.

It is vital we help to keep traffic flowing - at a safe speed – and that when dropping off or waiting, vehicles do not block residents’ driveways.

  • Road markings have been made on the street, which help ensure traffic can flow freely: please respect these and do not park or wait where there are yellow lines.

  • There is an informal ‘one way’ system whereby drivers follow an anticlockwise circuit around Rockwood Road and Rockwood Crescent – this enables the traffic to keep moving and you will find it much easier and quicker than going against the flow.

Finally, please see the link to further information about the planned work and an invitation to a meeting on Thursday 15th May at Pudsey Civic Hall to find out more about the plans.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours faithfully,

L.Pratt
